Trip 1 · Mid-January 2027

Big Island, Hawaii

Kona coffee country

Mid-January: the sweet spot in Kona.

We land after the holiday crowds and before the spring rains, right as Kona brings in the last of its harvest. The mills and roasters are running full tilt, and the whole slope smells like fresh coffee. We start early on the flanks of Hualālai and Mauna Loa, with clear views down to the coast before the afternoon clouds roll in. Walk the rows with the families who farm them, pick ripe cherries by hand, and drink the coffee right where it grows.

  • Visit working Kona coffee farms
  • Pick the last cherries of the harvest
  • Walk through mills and roasteries in full swing
  • Early mornings with clear coastal views

Trip 2 · Early August 2027

Ecuador

The Andean coffee highlands

Early August: the height of the Andean harvest.

Then we head south to Ecuador right in the heart of the main harvest. The trees hang heavy with ripe red cherries, the pickers are out every morning, and the drying beds fill with beans in the sun. It is the middle of the highland dry season, so days run bright and warm and nights at altitude turn cool. Right on the equator, coffee blooms and ripens on the same branch, so one walk shows you the whole cycle. Hike cloud-forest trails between the farms, pick alongside the families who grow it, and taste the cup that comes from every step.

  • Pick at the peak of the harvest
  • See beans drying in the highland sun
  • Blossoms and ripe cherries on one branch
  • Farm-to-cup tastings at the source
